Knock Out - Round 2

So, we have finally reached it, the final snow cone for our original challenge, kind of a sad and happy day all rolled into one. As Shellie mentioned in the last post, since Knock Out is the final flavor, we are both trying it with different snow cone flavors. For my Knock Out, I decided to go for a Root Beer Float, meaning I chose add Root Beer and Snow Ice Cream to the vanilla ice cream. While the original Root Beer snow cone did not get the highest marks (4 from each of us), it is quite simply outstanding when used in a Knock Out. It tasted just like a homemade root beer float which can never be a bad thing and this would make a great addition to the Delight Menu. And for those interested, we will be posting final results and a wrap up during the remainder of the week, so stay tuned!

Knock Out - Round 1

Well this is it! We have finally come to the last flavor at Texas Sno...Knock Out. Since we had only one left, we both ordered it. Knock out is made by picking a regular snow cone flavor and then adding a scoop of ice cream in the middle of it. I know this is going to come as a surprise, but I decided to get Blue Coconut as my flavor to make my Knock Out and since it was the last flavor ordered, I added cream to it to make it special. Blue Coconut with Sno Cream is spectacular (from previous experience of ordering this combination before the challenge), but with ice cream it is even better! The coconut is creamy and almost tastes like a coconut ice cream. If you are a coconut lover like myself, you will love this Knock Out!

PS, stay tuned for an addition to the blog coming soon!

Mud Slide

What images come to mind when you think of a mudslide? I imagine roads and houses covered in mud, dirt, and quite simply a disaster. Or you may also think of the Mudslide drink which includes Bailey's and Kahlua. Well, this is luckily neither of those, but instead a very tasty, and delightful treat. It has Chocolate Snow Ice Cream, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in the middle and of course topped off with whip cream, basically the opposite of the Snow Slide. It does not have the wider range of flavors as some of the other delight menu treats, but it is still very good for those that like the simpler flavors.

Almond Joy

Tonight was fun because we saw some friends we haven't seen in a while at Texas Sno! We got to enjoy eating our snow cones while catching up and enjoying their company. As for Almond Joy, it is an interesting mix of flavors: Toasted Coconut, Almond syrup, Snow Ice Cream mixed with chocolate, topped with whip cream and chocolate syrup. As a comparison to an actual Almond Joy, it has a similar flavor. However, I think that the candy has a stronger coconut flavor. I bet it you mixed Blue Coconut with chocolate snow cream, it would taste closer, but then who wants to look at that ugly concoction. It reminds me of a Cowboy's game when I made blue vanilla ice cream and we made Root Beer floats...yes, it looked bad and I bet that's why Toasted Coconut is used in this one. All in all, it was good and a nice treat off the delight menu! :)

We were saddened when we drove up to the stand and didn't see the "Open" sign lit up. So for our followers, we thought we'd add some entertainment to tide you over until tomorrow's post.

Spider Man

Spiderman, spiderman, does whatever a spider can...(by the way, this video of the original cartoon is hilarious....it is amazing how far cartoons have come). Moving on to the snow cone though, today's is a big favorite with kids and for good reason. It is red and blue (strawberry and blueberry), tastes great, and named after none other than Spiderman. I am not sure why Superman didn't get a snow cone, maybe he could be Coconut and Cherry....anyways, this is a great combination of classic flavors and he is...the friendly neighborhood Spiderman.

Dr. Pepper

Well ordering this drink took me back to my days as a soda jerk in college at the Dr. Pepper Museum in Waco, Texas! It's not a good as the real syrup we would use to make drinks or drizzle on ice cream for Dr. Pepper Sundays (the BEST)! However, this is one of the better "drink" snow cones I have ordered. It still actually tastes like a Dr. Pepper, without the carbonation so it is light and sweet. If you like Dr. Peppers, you should like this. I'm Pepper, are you a Pepper? Be a Pepper and drink Dr. Pepper!

Picadilly

And now it is time for one of the most unusual snow cones....Picadilly. Just the description will turn many people away, but it actually is pretty good. It is Cherry with real pickles in it, not Pickle Juice, but actual pickles. Now, I know this is strange...I mean pickles in a snow cone, but just keep reading and you'll understand.

The flavor has a nice sweetness from the cherry which is followed by a saltiness from the pickle which gives a balance that works really well. The texture is also kind of fun because you have the normal snow cone texture with chunks of pickle mixed all throughout. Truly unique and one of those that is many people's favorite.

Rainbow

If you want to go back to the days when you got a snow cone out at the ballpark after a little league game (or after watching one in my case), this one was ordered quite a bit. Rainbow for Texas Sno consists of Blue Coconut, Banana, and Strawberry and to make it even more fun, the three flavors create 5 colors when striped. When I took a drink through the straw it was incredible how all three flavors blended together. I could actually taste all three of them and it was really good. When eating it, you could choose to eat just one flavor and then another, or you could eat them all together with a spoon swipe (yes, a new phrase I created). The cool thing is when you eat it with a spoon and get about 2 inches down, you see the rainbow again going a different way! Any kid will love this, and I think those of you that are still kids at heart will love it too! :)

Diablo

So, I have a secret....Diablo is really just Sal y Limon but they use Pico de Gallo powder instead of Chili powder. It is supposed to be a little hotter. The first time I tried one of the snow cones with chili powder, it was Chamoyada which I really disliked, but now that I am on my third one, I think the flavor is starting to grow on me. I still don't like it, but I think if I kept eating them I could easily acquire the taste. It is very sour from the lime and salt, and spicy from the powder. For those that like those types of flavors, try it out, you might be surprised.

Spearmint

This is a flavor that I was not looking forward to and if you can't tell by our scores, I was correct in my prediction. What I did not know is exactly how it would taste. When you take a sip, the first thing you taste is lime. I responded with a "wow, it's not that bad". But as Kelly put it "just wait a second..." and BAM, it hit me...YUCKY strong mint flavor with a little lime still hanging around. It is gross and I promise to never order it again. I will just stick with my many other favorites :)

Zebra

We are now in the home stretch...one final week before we have tried all flavors of snowcones at Texas Sno. So for today, I tried Zebra, I wanted to think of a funny joke, but could come up with nothing, so I guess we'll have to stick to the regular descriptions. Zebra is Snow Ice Cream, White Coconut with chocolate syrup striped all the way through, and finally topped off with whipped cream. In short, awesomeness...wait, is that a word? Well, it is now, because that is the best description as you can taste the chocolate, coconut, and homemade ice cream flavors.

Banana Split

Before I even begin to tell you how utterly fantastic this snow cone is, let me get you up to speed on what is in it. The base is Snow Ice Cream, layered with scoops (yes, more than one!) of chocolate ice cream, with chunks of bananas and strawberries, and is topped with whip cream. I should be able to stop right there and not have to say any more, but that wouldn't suffice for the blog! :) This is not a normal banana split by any means, but coming from a banana split fan, this is even better! It has strawberries instead of cherries and when you drink out of the straw, it combines the flavors of the strawberries and the cream and tastes like the Strawberry Delight. If you are looking for an over the top dessert and don't want to pay out the big bucks at a restaurant or slave over making one yourself, you really have to try this. What am I saying??? You should try this anyway!!!

Leche

Leche means milk in Spanish, so we were both surprised when we were handed this bright red snow cone...I mean, milk is white, so what gives? Well, after a little bit of research, it appears that Leche is a common snow cone flavor in Mexico that is sweetened milk and cinnamon. To me it doesn't taste like sweetened milk or even vanilla as suggested by another site, but instead, cotton candy with a cinnamon aftertaste. I really enjoyed it and while it was a surprising flavor, it is probably the best Mexican snow cone flavor we have tried so far (other flavors included: Chamoyada, Sal y Limon, Tambarindo)

White Coconut

White coconut??? Who would've ever thought that coconut could be white? :) I thought coconuts were blue or pink or even toasted!

If you have been reading the blog, you know that I am probably one of the biggest coconut fans (maybe on this planet), but this might be at the bottom of the list of coconuts. It's not that it is bad, it's just not fantastic like the others. It has kind of an imitation flavor to it and it isn't as strong as the other flavors, but mixing it with cream might be nice. All in all, it's okay and for those that like coconut but don't want a colorful tongue after eating a snow cone, this might be for you.

Chocolate Frenzy

I may have a new favorite....Chocolate Frenzy. It tastes like homemade ice cream mixed with chocolate covered strawberries....truly awesome. Being a delight flavor, it of course has the snow ice cream which in this case is mixed with chocolate syrup, real strawberries and then topped with whipped cream. Not much more to say on this one other than you gotta try it.

Snow Slide

Snow Slide is a snow cone off of the gourmet menu that I have not tried in the past. I don't know why because it has everything I love! They layer snow ice cream with scoops of actual chocolate ice cream and top it with whip cream! If you love homemade ice cream and chocolate, this is definitely something that will please your taste buds. It is phenomenal!!! I can guarantee your happiness with this one :) ENJOY!

Wild Cherry

Wild Cherry is slight twist on the classic Cherry. They add a sour mix to it to give it a tartness, not as much as Sour Cherry but it does still add to the flavor. For me, this is probably the best of the Cherries, it has both the sweetness and tartness I love. It kind of reminds me of the cherry flavor in a cherry pie or cobbler...very good and a staple that should be a part of any snow cone list.

Watermelon

This flavor is a little harder to describe for some reason. Kelly said it is light, sweet, not overpowering and tastes just like watermelon...but that's easy for someone to say that is allergic to all melons and never eats them! He is correct on the light and sweet part, though. For me it tastes like if you put watermelon into a candy and added a little extra sugar. I like it, but it's probably not one of my top favorites.

Vanilla

Vanilla has always been one of those flavors that I like, but don't love. When I get the Blue Bell Vanilla ice cream, I'll definitely eat it (who passes up the opportunity for ice cream :) ), but it is always much better when you add some other flavors on it, like chocolate syrup. And while I will drink a simple vanilla shake, it is much better if you can mix in Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Well, the same goes for this snow cone flavor. It is good, but not great for me. It has a nice simple sweet flavor, but I personally want more flavor out of it...maybe if I mixed it with something else, like snow ice cream....well, there is always next time.

Toasted Coconut

I was excited to see that I had yet another coconut coming up. For those of you that follow us, you know I LOVE anything coconut! Toasted Coconut has the wonderful coconut flavor, but is not as strong as blue coconut. It also has more of the natural flavor in my opinion. Also, for those coconut lovers that are going somewhere after enjoying this, it is white so it won't leave any color on your teeth or tongue. If you love coconut, you will love this! Enjoy :D

Tutti Fruitti

...A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo...oops, sorry still singing the song in my head. Moving on to the snow cone flavor, this is actually very similar to the other flavor of the day, Tigerblood, just a sweeter version of it. We actually got them mixed up for a second when we first set them down because they are both red and similar in flavor. This one though, as Shellie puts it, does taste like a Sweet Tart without the tartness....wouldn't that just make it 'sweet'? Who knows, either way, definitely a great snow cone flavor.

Tiger's Blood

We have been waiting a long time to try this favorite of fellow snow cone lovers. It is listed on the kids menu as a mixture of all the red flavors. It is sweet and fruity, just the way I like my snow cones. When I researched what is put into the flavoring, it came up as Strawberry, Orange and Coconut; and some said it also had Watermelon (a flavor we have not had yet). I honestly do not know what exactly is in this snow cone but I do know that it is one of their BEST at Texas Sno! I will definitely get this one again...after the challenge is over that is. :)

Tambarindo

Tambarindo is a popular Mexican drink that has been made into a snow cone. It is made using a fruit called Tamarind which supposedly has a sweet and sour flavor and is high in sugar, acid, Vitamin B, and amazing enough....Calcium. Seeing as how I have never heard of a tamarind before, Shellie and I were comparing it to other fruits including a mix of Cherry and Grape. Either way, it has a fruity flavor and tastes pretty good.

Silver Fox

This snow cone intrigued me because I didn't know what to think with the name "Silver Fox". They told us that is has the flavors of Almond and Leche (milk) in it. To me it tastes like sweet milk, but interestingly enough, it has a subtle heat afterward. The heat is very hard to describe, but the more I drank/ate, the more I felt it on my tongue/in my mouth. Overall, if you like anything with their famous Sno Ice Cream or Dulce de Leche, you will probably enjoy this.

Strawberry Daiquiri

So today, we met someone who loves snow cones as much as us....he apparently went through all 113 flavors last summer. He and his wife loved snow cones so much they even stopped to get one before going to the hospital when having their baby, now that's dedication.

As for my flavor of the day it tastes just like a virgin Strawberry Daiquiri, which is good since that is the flavor :). It is another great flavor in the long line of strawberry themed snow cones (see Strawberry for the full list).

Strawberry

So as of yet, we have tried many various forms of strawberry snow cones: Strawberry Banana Delight, Strawberry Shortcake, Strawberry Cheesecake, Clear Strawberry, Strawberry Delight...and in addition, two different strawberry flavors today! Clear Strawberry was a while ago (back in the "C's") but I think it is pretty close to that one. It is very sweet and not overpowering. It reminds me of a drink I got at Canton's First Monday's one time. They took actual strawberries and made a drink out of them (adding some sugar water I'm sure). It was good and so is this!

Sour Apple

Sour Apple tastes exactly like it sounds....sour and apple flavored (I know BIG surprise :) ). Green Apple and Granny Smith Apple already has a tart flavor, so adding the sour only makes the face pucker up even more when taking a bite. Me personally, I like sour candy but think I'll probably stay away from this in the future...I like snow cones with a sweeter flavor, but for those who like sour items, definitely give it a try.

Sour Cherry

This might not be a surprise to any of you following us, but I am not a fan of sour tasting things. I really dislike the feeling you get in your jaw when you taste something sour. It's like someone hit you in the jaw and it locked. For those of you who like that feeling and love all things sour, I'm sure this is something you would enjoy. It tastes like a sour cherry jolly rancher to me. It has the sweet cherry taste with the sour jaw breaking effect.

Tropical Fruit Delight

Tonight was definitely a fun one as 20 plus college students from First Irving joined us after the Wednesday night service. While the wait was longer, we got their first :) and then spent the rest of the time talking to everyone, so time flew. As for the snow cone, Tropical Fruit Delight is probably the delight snow cone with the most fruit. I know I tasted at least pineapple, papaya, and probably some mango if not others. It is described on their menu, as having homemade sno cream, mango and coconut syrup, tropical fruit, and whip cream. You can never go wrong really with the delight menu, but I will say that there are others I prefer, it is still worth trying though.

Strawberry Banana Delight

Tonight was a very fun surprise. The college group from First Irving joined us for our snow cone of the day. Many had never been to Texas Sno and were surprised by the greatness of their snow cones. We had a great time devouring the snow cones and chatting. :)

Now on to the tasting...this snow cone was excellent! It has the famous homemade Sno Ice Cream with fresh strawberries and bananas chopped up in it and topped off with whip cream. If you like banana and strawberries with homemade ice cream, that is what this tastes like. You're gonna love it (unless you're like Kelly and allergic to bananas)!

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea....Spongebob Squarepants...this flavor is of course extremely yellow and loved by almost all kids. Actually, when we took some kids to get snowcones, we asked one of them if they wanted banana or pineapple...they turned their nose up to both but then insisted on Spongebob...which is banana and pineapple, which they of course loved, gotta love kids. This flavor also reminded me of a recent Rock Band party where we ended up playing Spongebob's "The Best Day Ever" about 6 times for one of the kids...good times.

Strawberry Chesecake

The rain finally stopped long enough for a snow cone...YEAH!!!! So, today's flavor is Strawberry Cheesecake. I was a little nervous about this one after having cheesecake earlier in the challenge, but was hopeful that with the strawberry flavor, it would improve. Unfortunately, it didn't...my opinion still holds, it tastes like cheesecake, but that is not something that should be made into a snow cone...the textures are just too different.
