It's Raining, It's Pouring

Texas Sno got rained out today and unfortunately,
the forecast for this week looks gloomy.
Hopefully Mr. Sun will shine again soon!
Until then, visit the blog to see cartoons on rainy days.

Sal y Limon

Tonight's flavor is a little intriguing, Sal y Limon...or salt and lemon. I don't mind either of those things and while I thought it might be sour, it should still be good. When ordering, they asked if I wanted the chili powder on it, so I told them to make it like they would normally....apparently a mistake. Many people are big fans of chili powder and put it on almost any snow cone flavor...I am not one of them. When I get bites of just the snow cone flavor it tastes pretty good, and much like I expected, but when I get a spoonful with a lot of chili powder, let's just say it is not as good. So, many people may love this one...just not me. I might try it again one day though without the chili just to see if my opinion changes.

Rum

I was dreading today's snow cone order because we were up to Rum and Sal y Limon. I just knew it was going to be the worst tasting of the challenge and boy was I wrong (at least on this one)! I was taken by surprise by how sweet the Rum snow cone was. It is a very hard taste to describe, but I think it tastes like a sweetened rum flavor without the alcohol kick you would normally taste. I bet if you added cream to it, it would get 4.5 or possibly even 5 snow cones on the scale! All in all, it's not too bad.

Raspberry Red/Blue

We kind of cheated on this flavor. It is actually two flavors, but one line item on the menu, so we did a half and half...of Red Raspberry and Blue Raspberry. To break the suspense I know everyone must be having, they taste the exact same. When eating by the spoon, it has the sweet flavor, and when drinking through the straw you get the tartness that one might expect from a raspberry. Overall, it is a very good raspberry flavor, if only I liked raspberries more by themselves...I normally always end up eating them with other fruits like blueberries, blackberries, etc....hmmm, I see a combination coming :)

Root Beer

There are many different brands of Root Beer and if you are a Root Beer lover, I'm sure you have your favorite. My favorite brand is A&W. For me, this snow cone tasted like IBC's Root Beer. When we ordered it, they said that this one would be a great snow cone to add cream to it or turn it into a knockout (which adds a scoop of ice cream to it). Either of those would turn it into tasting like a Root Beer float...YUM! So if you're in the mood for the plain drink or a float, this would be a good one to order.

Doggie Snow Cone!

Our dogs LOVE snow cones and Texas Sno loves dogs!
They even offer a free doggie snow cone for dogs that show up in line. It is a child size cup of shaved ice. On a hot summer day (or night in Texas), what dog wouldn't love one? Our dogs Lilly (above) and Abby (below) sure do! Of course, they give us extra kisses when we give them a spoonful of our flavors in their cup too. :) That is, unless it's something like Chamoyada!

Popeye

And now we are on to Popeye. This one worried me a bit at the beginning of the summer about what flavor it was until I saw on the Kid's Menu that it is actually just Green Bubble Gum. I will say that I do not like this as much as Blue Bubblegum, but it is the best "bubblegum" they have...okay, that may sound confusing. It tastes just like the bubblegum you would get from the quarter machines as a kid, I just like the taste of the other one better. Finally, being a Popeye snow cone, it is very green, my tongue, lips, and teeth were all colored as I was talking to people at the Wednesday night service at our church...fun times.

Rockberry Lemonade

Well, if you can remember back to yesterday's post (pink lemonade), then just imagine that same taste with a little more sour/tart flavor added. The first taste was a lot more sour than it ended up being and after 2-3 drinks/spoonfuls, it was the perfect blend of tart/sweet flavor. If you like raspberry lemonade, I bet you would really like this!

Pink Dragon

And finally a manly drink! Okay, so maybe not, but it is one that many kids would love. Pink Dragon is described by Texas Sno as "fruity" which it definitely is. For me, it tastes like Pixy Stix and it reminds Shellie of Fun Dip. Needless to say, whichever fun candy it reminds you of, it is definitely sweet.

Ratings:

Pink Lemonade

The best pink lemonade I've had recently is made by Minute Maid. It tastes completely natural and is light and sweet. This snow cone tastes like you froze that version into a slushy form and and blended it! It is a wonderfully sweet (with a tad bit of sourness) flavor. As a side note, did you know that pink lemonade was originally made from crushed red sumac berries and sweetened with maple syrup. Aren't you glad we don't drink the same stuff now!

Pina Colada

Today's post will be short and to the point, this is what I call the poor man's pina colada snow cone. It tastes just like you would expect with the pineapple and coconut flavors, but if there is an option, definitely spend the extra money and get the Pina Colada Delight.

One last thing, if you have a bite of the delight version first, followed by the regular version, the regular version pulls in those delight flavors and tastes even better.

Pina Colada Delight

This is quite fantastic! It has snow cream, clear coconut syrup, real pineapples and is topped with whip cream. Have you ever eaten divinity? When you take your first bite, it takes you by surprise and then you just want to savor the taste in your mouth so you eat more? That is what this is. It is an incredibly sweet surprise that you just want to keep eating/drinking and then before you know it, it's gone. I will definitely be ordering this one again after the challenge has come to a close.

Pickle

And now, for the flavor you have all been waiting for....PICKLE!!! This has to be one of the strangest snow cone flavors yet...because it is not your regular snow cone syrup, it is instead actual pickle juice taken straight from a pickle jar. This makes it one of the healthiest snow cones in my opinion because it is all natural (water, salt, and vinegar) and is sugar-free. It has that salty, sour tastes that one would expect from pickle juice, so this is one of those snow cones you either hate or love. To put it another way, if you were that kid (like Shellie) that drank all the pickle juice when the pickles were gone, then this one is for you.

P.S. You can actually order pickle juice as a sports drink now....go figure.

Passion Fruit

So what is a passion fruit? After 28 years, I still don't know. I have had desserts with that flavor, and I am sure I have had it in fruit mixes...but what is it exactly? Well, wikipedia teaches us something new every day. Passion Fruit was given the name by Catholic Missionaries who thought that the fruit bore some religious connections regarding the crucifixion, including symbols representing the three nails in Jesus's hands and feet, the crown of thorns, the whips, Jesus's 5 wounds, and the apostles...very interesting reading. As for the flavor of the snow cone, it was very fruity and delightful.

Peach

This flavor caught me by surprise. I haven't been the biggest fan of peach flavored items in the past. This snow cone, however, is a very creamy, light and sweet peach flavor. It's like they took the peach out of a blend of peaches and cream! I know it sounds strange, but that's what it reminds me of.

Orange

Orange is one of those flavors that you will feel that you already know....probably because everyone has had orange flavored items in the past. For me it tastes like an orange flavored popsicle, but for others it may taste like another orange flavor. Either way, it is a flavor to be enjoyed.

Papaya

Papaya is a fruit that originated in Central America and has since spread. Some people like the fruit and some don't, but I happen to be a fan (especially when it is blended in a smoothie with other tropical fruits). As for the snow cone, it does have a light and tad bit sweeter papaya flavor to it, but a little too sweet for my tastes (yes, I know, too sweet for me???). It might be good mixed with some other snow cone flavors though, such as mango, lemon, strawberry, banana, or coconut (although doesn't everyone know that anything you add coconut to can only get better)!

Pink Lady

Pink Lady is another one of the great specialty flavors at Texas Sno, although pretty much anything with Sno Ice Cream is great. It tastes like a very sweet home made ice cream with a light fruity nectar taste. Great flavor, and from what I understand, it is even better than Stella's version of it.

Snow Ice Cream

Well, I have known this fact to be true since we starting going to Texas Sno 5 years ago but I'll say it again anyway. Snow Ice Cream is one of the BEST snow cones Texas Sno has to offer! They make the cream themselves from scratch and it tastes like actual homemade ice cream in a cup. And by the way, you can add cream to any flavor to make it that much better! Also, most of the gourmet snow cones have cream in them too. If you want to order a sure winner, this would be it!

Ocean Mist

Well, finally a new flavor other than lime...Ocean Mist. I can't actually pinpoint this flavor, I taste some lime, some cherry, some coconut....it is kind of a mix of fruit flavors with no one flavor really standing out. Some may really like this one, but while it is not bad, it doesn't have one particular flavor that makes me really like it unfortunately....now if only I could find a song like Shellie did for Ninja Turtles.

Ninja Turtle

We had debate on what song went with this. You see Kelly started singing "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" (from the TV show) and I started singing "You put the lime in the coconut". Either way, it's pretty good. It matches the color of turtles and tastes like coconut mixed with a little lime. I don't know it will "relieve a bellyache", but if you are a fan of lime or coconut, you will like this snow cone!

Margarita

Margarita...another lime flavored snow cone....I like lime, but will be glad when I get a new type of flavor tomorrow. Overall, it tastes like Lemon Lime with a little more lemon flavoring. So, how does this compare to a real margarita...well, when I added salt, it tasted even more like a frozen margarita. Now if only it had tequila then it would be even more authentic....in the meantime, it makes a great virgin frozen margarita.

Mango

I am a huge fan of mangoes. I like slices of them, in a fruit salad, in a smoothie, etc. However, this snow cone tastes nothing like mangoes. I'm going to preface my next statement with the fact that I am a very weird person (so I've been told). Okay, now that you know that I'm going to share with you what I think this snow cone tastes like. When you were younger did you ever eat Sour Punch Straws? This snow cone tastes exactly like one of those when you drink a soda using them. Yes, again, I'm weird! And by the way, I am not a fan of those.

Lemon-Lime

Wow, 3 days in a row with a lime flavored snow cone and tomorrow is no different with Margarita...well, this one is Lemon Lime. It kind of tastes like a 7-Up or Sprite but a little more citrus flavor, particularly lime. I do think that the lemon flavor really helps with offsetting the strong tartness of the lime.

Lemon

Lemon is definitely one of the flavors I was looking forward to the least. Any kind of dessert with lemons is something I do not desire to eat! Lime

Lime is one of those classic flavors that people either really enjoy or they can't stand. With the sour, tart flavor that makes your face pucker up a little, I enjoy it, but then again that should be obvious based on the past lime flavors, such as: Cherry Limeade, Frog in a Blender, Hulk

Kiwi

This is a mystery to me. I have had something that tastes exactly like this before and cannot put my finger on it. It has a very light, sweet, fruity flavor with a hint of apple. It reminds me of a Life Saver, but for the life of me I do not know which flavor. Maybe they have a kiwi one and it tastes just like it (if that is a flavor)! One thing is for sure: it does not taste like an actual kiwi. However, it is good nonetheless.

The Hulk

The Hulk is of course GREEN, GREEN, and more GREEN. According to the Kid's Menu, it consists of Lime and Daiquiri. I don't really taste much daiquiri, so it mostly taste like lime which I enjoy. I am sure with a name like "Hulk" that many young boys love to order it for that reason alone. All in all, a classic flavor with a new name to make it new and fun in my opinion.

This is a popular drink that was created in New Orleans in the 1940's. According to Wikipedia, the real drink is made from lime juice, passion fruit syrup & rum. Granny Smith Apple

Granny Smith Apple....seems like I had something similar yesterday...maybe say Green Apple. Well to be quite honest, I do not have the most discerning taste buds so I cannot tell a large difference between the two. What i can tell is that the Granny Smith Apple tastes a little sweeter and while it has a slight tartness, it isn't as tart as the other apple flavor. Overall, definitely one worth trying out.

Georgia Peach

I have to preface this with the fact that I am not a huge peach fan. I love eating real peaches but peach flavored things do not appeal to me. Therefore, I was not really looking forward to this snow cone. That being said, this is one of the BEST snow cones yet! Georgia Peach is peach mixed with strawberry and I have pretty much decided that anything mixed with strawberry seems to be a real winner. It is light and sweet and delightful. Fuzzy Navel

Fuzzy Navel is a fruity snow cone with a sweet nectar and orange flavor. It is missing the ingredient that makes it fuzzy (or hairy depending on ones taste), so it is safe for all including kids. Fireball

Snow cones are funny to me, they taste one way when drinking through a straw and another way sometimes when eating with a spoon. Fireball is no different, when drinking through the straw you taste the red-hot candy flavor that you expect, but with the spoon it actually isn't hot at all. So while this is a little strange if someone wants a really hot snowcone, try Cinnamon and for those who want the cinnamon flavor but a milder version I would suggest Fireball.

Frog in a Blender

It's here...The one you've been waiting for...Frog in a Blender! Lime and Strawberry mixed with a gummy frog on top didn't sound the most appealing to me at first. However, it is shockingly good. Today we are celebrating 6 wonderful years of marriage together and in honor of that, we decided to only get one snow cone...Wedding Cake! Neither of us are a huge fan of white wedding cake and therefore had cheesecake at our wedding. However, "Wedding Cake" the snow cone tastes like homemade vanilla ice cream (or in Shellie's words "like a little piece of heaven"). Clear Cherry....this seems to remind me of another flavor but I can't put my finger on it....I think we had it just recently...oh, that's right cherry. This tastes exactly like the regular cherry, only difference is that it is clear, which is really good if you want to avoid the red tongue effect.
