NEW Kid's Menu

In honor of Memorial Day, Texas Sno is closed.

However, if you haven't been recently, they added a Kid's Menu. It has the name and what's in the flavor to help the little ones make up their mind. Thanks Texas Sno for being so kid friendly!

Have a GREAT holiday and we'll be back tomorrow!

Cherry Limeade

Cherry limeade is greatness. I will say that everybody likes their cherry limeades in different ways, Shellie for instance likes more cherry, less lime so for her this wasn't as good. But I really like the lime flavor that makes your mouth pucker up from the tartness. It is heavier on the lime, so for those that don't like as much, just have them mix it with cherry, but for me, this one will definitely be ordered in the future when I want a snow cone with a little sour/tartness.

Ratings:
Shellie: 2 snow cones
Me (Kelly): 4.5 snow cones

Cherry Cola

Cherry Cola tasted like the 7-11 Slurpee I remember getting in high school. It has a lot of cola flavor with a little bit of cherry. On a side note, I thought the flavor was better drinking from the straw than eating with a spoon but that could be attributed to my Slurpee mindset. All in all, it was okay but I wished it had the fizziness of a real cola.

Cheesecake

Well, seeing this on the menu makes you wonder, could they possibly capture the flavor of cheesecake in a snowcone? I am hear to say, that they did just that. Now, the second question would be, is cheesecake a good flavor for a snowcone? That is an answer is left to each person. For me, it tasted just like cheesecake which I like, but not as much in a snow cone. I did mix it with Cherry and it tastes a lot better. For those who like cheesecake, try it out or mix it with your favorite fruits, blueberry, cherry, strawberry, or even chocolate. Never hurts to try something new.

Cherry

When I think about the classic flavors I grew up eating, this is definitely one of them (because back then they didn't have things like Chamoyada...good thing too or I might hate snow cones!!!). It tastes exactly like what it is called and brings back memories of baseball games and hot summers. It is sweet and refreshing and leaves that bright red color on your tongue. Enjoy!

Strawberry Delight

This is probably my favorite snow cone on the menu, the Strawberry Delight. It is one of Texas Sno's gourmet flavors and it is great. It has Sno Cream (which gives it that homemade ice cream taste), real strawberries, and is topped with whipped cream. This was one of my first adventures into the gourmet menu and is definitely not your normal snow cone, it is soooooo much better. For those who have never had a gourmet delight snow cone, you definitely have to try one out.

Shellie: 5 snow cones
Me (Kelly): 5 snow cones

Donkey Kong

After last night, I had to order something wonderful. So we decided to take a break from the regular menu and order from the delight. This is a little piece of heaven. It tastes like homemade chocolate ice cream with slices of bananas in it, topped with whip cream. If you have tried "Chocolate Cow," this is the same thing plus bananas. YUM YUM!

Ratings:
Me (Shellie): 5 snow cones
Kelly: "Sounds great, but I'm allergic to bananas so I can't eat it" :(

Cinnamon

Cinnamon was much better than I last remembered. It reminds me of red hots which I love. You get a nice sweet hot taste, which is very nice, especially in comparison to the other snow cone of the day, Chamoyada. This is really good for those who like hot items, and for those who like really hot items, Karen, the owner, mentioned that Fireball is much hotter...we'll just have to find out later since it is at the bottom of the list.

Rating:
Shellie: 1 snow cone (Shellie hates even the smell of cinnamon)
Me (Kelly): 3 snow cones

Chamoyada

Insanely disgusting...and that is being nice! I knew it was going to be interesting when the owner asked "are you sure" and then wondered if we wanted it in a tasting cup. But we decided from the beginning that we were all in on this challenge and that means taking the good with the horrible. Also, I couldn't get cinnamon (which was next on the list) because it makes my nose burn (again, I know I'm weird). So down to business. What is Chamoyada? Well, at first it tasted like lots of salt with lemon-lime soda with chili. However, after researching what it really is we found out that the flavor contains the following: chamoy (pickled plum or apricot with chili), chili powder, and LOTS of salt. You can put money on the fact that I will NEVER order this again, but if you like really salty drinks that make your whole face pucker up then you should try it!

Candy Apple

Apparently we just beat the rain on getting these snow cones, good thing too. Candy Apple has a very interesting flavor. It reminds me of an apple Jolly Rancher so you can definitely taste the apple and there is a slight sour taste to it as well. Shellie doesn't like apple Jolly Ranchers so needless to say, rates this kind of low. I personally liked it although with a 113 flavors, I may not order this one again unless I hear of a really good combination for it.

Shellie: 1.5 snow cones

Coconut Kiss

Well everyone knows that I LOVE anything coconut so I was looking forward to this one. I was surprised, though, at how even more spectacular it was than I had anticipated! Not only does it have a wonderful coconut flavor, it also has a hint of cotton candy flavor. It is very light and a perfectly light pink flavor too. If you love cotton candy or coconut and want a lighter flavor, this is your cup of tea.

Cola

Well, after spending the last twenty minutes cleaning the mess I made when I knocked over Shellie's Cotton Candy snowcone...I can now write my review. The Cola snow cone tastes just like a Coke slurpee at your local 7-11. Now, for me I never get the Cola slurpee by itself, I always get it combined with other things, usually all the flavors available (I am still a kid at heart). For me that is the same for the Cola snow cone, it is good, but not great. It would probably be great as a mix-in for combinations, so I am really looking forward to the Cherry Cola flavor.

Rating:
Shellie: 3.5 snow cones
Me (Kelly): 3.5 snow cones

Cotton Candy

This has got to be one of the most interesting flavors thus far. First of all, when you take your first sip, gulp, drink or spoonful you get the slightest hint of hot cinnamon. Then after you swallow, you taste an amazing cotton candy flavor EXACTLY like you just ate a bite of the real thing. It's quite lovely. If you like cotton candy, you will love this!

Rating:
Me (Shellie): 4.5 snow cones (only because I actually do not like the taste of hot cinnamon)
Kelly: 5 snow cones

Blueberry

Today's flavor is Blueberry and it is definitely blue...that immediately gives it a few points based on my previous logic with blue bubble gum. And it tastes like blueberry which is really good since that is the name of it, otherwise it would have been a major disappointment. I do have to say though that it is a little too sweet and so can't go any higher than a 4.

Rating:
Me (Kelly): 4
Shellie: 2 snow cones

Cantaloupe-Melon

If you like cantaloupe, this is for you. It tastes just like the real deal. I do like cantaloupe...and all melons for that matter. However, this is a very light snow cone, and very sweet at the same time. It's not bad, just not one of my favorites.

Black Berry

I love black berries...actually I pretty much love all berries, but wasn't sure how this would work on a snowcone. Well, I love it....this one may actually enter a regular rotation later on. It has the tartness of grape, and the sweetness of cherry. I was going to try adding frozen black berries to it to see if it could be any better, but to my dismay, we were all out. Guess I'll just have to try again tomorrow when we move on to Blueberry.

Shellie: 3 snow cones
Me (Kelly): 4.5 snow cones

Black Cherry

I was looking forward to trying this flavor for only one reason...I really like this color on a car. Yes, I know that I am very odd. However, the flavor is quite nice. It has a strong cherry flavor (bet you would have guessed that though) and almost tastes like the grape/cherry fruit juice you buy at the grocery store.

Blue Hawaiian

So today is Blue Hawaiian day...kind of a good way to start the "Lost" weekend, a snow cone based on a Pacific island. This snowcone, however, doesn't include any airplane crashes, time-travel, or smoke monsters. It does have a simple Hawaiian Punch and Coconut flavor and tastes awesome. I am not certain, but I bet this one would be great with sno cream mixed in too. Maybe we'll go back through and try sno cream combinations after the 113 flavors are done, of course that might have to be next year's challenge :) Well, off to finish re-watching last week's Lost episode and finish preparing for the marathon event on Sunday.

Blue Coconut

I was so excited to finally get to this flavor as it has been one of my staple orders for the past 5 summers! Blue Coconut is not only the best regular flavor in my opinion, but it has the wonderful effect of turning your whole mouth and lips bright blue. :) I will say that if you want an exciting twist, add cream to it. It tastes like coconut with homemade ice cream...and it is heaven. For today I stuck with the plain jane wonderful blue coconut.

Blue Bubble Gum

Blue bubble gum...it tastes just like the pink bubble gum except more manly. It is everything a snowcone is expected to be, icy, sugary, and sweet, I liked it. I am also giving the blue version of it an extra half snow cone because it is blue instead of pink, and because you get the great blue tongue effect that reminds me of being a kid.

Rating:
Shellie: 2.5 snow cones
Me (Kelly): 4 snow cones

Pink Bubble Gum

I have to say that I was not looking forward to trying a flavor with "bubble gum" in the title due to the fact that I never really liked chewing bubble gum growing up. A friend told me that this was her favorite flavor as a kid so I tried really hard to be optimistic. After trying it, it's not horrible, but it is WAY too sweet for me! I now know why a lot of kids love it.

Butterscotch

You may be wondering why is the picture upside down? It is because this one is a big thumbs down. I love snow cones and didn't know one could be that bad, but I was wrong. As two of our friends said, it tastes like Dr. Pepper, bubble gum, and cough syrup. I should have known it would be bad when the person making it said, "Are you sure?" Well...I digress, we already know what the result will be here.

Rating:
Shellie: 1 snow cone
Me (Kelly): 1 snow cone (we don't go any lower unfortunately)

Banana Daiquiri

Well, this was a refreshing surprise! After not being that delighted with regular banana, I was hesitant to try Banana Daiquiri. However, this is what I was looking for when something has the word Banana in the name. They need to take Banana off and replace it with Banana Daiquiri's flavor. It is light, refreshing, sweet and has a wonderful banana taste. I never did taste the daiquiri part, but that fine by me :) If you like bananas, you will enjoy Banana Daiquiri!

Buttercream

Continuing on down the list, we are at Buttercream. After, the intial tasting, this is definitely one of those Shellie and I will disagree on. For me, it tastes like cream soda and I was pleasantly surprised. Shellie on the other hand thought it tasted like it had alcohol and in a bad way...you can see where this is going...

Banana

Well I guess I have to help Kelly go down the regular flavor list. However, since the next one on the list is Banana and he avoids all things related to that since he is allergic (yes, he knows it is just a flavor but he avoids it just the same) I ordered it. While I do love anything that has the word banana in it, this is not so high on the list. It is not overpowering, though, so that is nice. The flavor is not bad, but it definintely is just that, a flavor.

Bahama Mama

While Shellie went for her favorite snow cone on the first try, I decided to do the more analytical...start with the first one on the menu...Bahama Mama. We have never tried this one in the past for some reason and it shows the entire reason for the challenge, to try new flavors. It has a fruity flavor, pina colada and maybe a little strawberry, it was excellent and a great one to start the challenge.

Rating:
Shellie - 4.5 snow cones

The Chocolate Cow

This is one of the BEST gourmet flavors in my opinion. It has been a long time favorite and one that I order frequently so it seemed like the best option for starting off this challenge. If you like homemade ice cream and chocolate, this is a mixture of the two flavors, topped with whipped cream & sprinkles. A match made in heaven!

My (Shellie's) rating: 5 snow cones
Kelly's rating: 4.5 snow cones

Let the Challenge Begin!

Welcome to the Texas Sno Challenge. Over the last 6 years, we have tried every snow cone stand we could find in Irving and have decided that Texas Sno is the best snow cone stand in the world (or at least Irving).
